KABARMEGAPOLITAN.com – International Nurses Day on May 12: honoring this multi-skilled profession. Many people think that the most important people in the healthcare system are doctors, but this is not true. Nurses play a key role in all medical institutions, responsible for the well-being, safety and recovery of patients.

Nurses have a tremendous amount of knowledge and many diverse skills that they spend years perfecting and developing in working in very difficult environments.

Nurses help bring new life into the world, care for the sick and injured tirelessly, and sometimes watch the patients they have saved die despite their best efforts.

On many occasions, it is an alert nurse who spots an error in a doctor’s prescription in time to save someone’s life.

Nurses of course have a big role in the health and well-being of people around the world.

International Nurses Day began in 1953, when Dorothy Sutherland, an official in the United States Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, contacted President Dwight D. Eisenhower proposing that he declare a “Nurses Day”.

However, he did not agree to his proposal at that time. The International Council of Nurses has celebrated on May 12 since 1965.

May 12 is an important date for all nurses, as it is the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, who is widely considered the founder of modern nursing.

In January 1974, this day was finally officially declared International Nurses Day.

Every year since then, ICN has prepared and distributed something called the International Nurses Day Kit, which contains educational materials and public information, for use by nurses everywhere.***
