FAKE MEDIA – The United Nations (UN) reports that more than 38,000 women and girls died as a result of Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip until the end of 2025. This figure accounts for more than half of the total of around 71,000 fatalities in the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

Spokesperson for the UN agency for gender equality, Sofia Calltorpsaid that victims of women and girls have continued to increase since the conflict escalated in October 2023.

“Between October 2023 and December 2025, more than 38,000 women and girls died in Gaza as a result of Israeli air bombardment and ground military operations,” said Calltorp at a press conference in Geneva, Sunday (19/4/2026).

He detailed that this number consisted of more than 22,000 women and 16,000 girls. Thus, an average of at least 47 women and girls lost their lives every day during that period.

The UN warned that the actual figure was likely higher. This is because there are still many victims who are thought to be buried under the rubble of buildings and the limitations of the reporting system in conflict areas.

According to Calltorp, the proportion of women and girls victims in this conflict is much higher than in previous conflicts in Gaza. Report UN Women noted that women and girls made up only 15 percent of those killed in the 2008–2009 conflict, as well as 22 percent in the 2014 conflict.

Apart from the high death rate, the UN also highlights the condition of survivors who still face serious threats every day. They experience hunger, repeated displacement, and limited access to basic services such as health and humanitarian assistance.

“In addition to the shocking death toll, nearly 11,000 women and girls in Gaza have suffered injuries so severe that they live with permanent disabilities,” Calltorp said.

The UN emphasizes the need for greater international attention to protect civilians, especially women and children, in the ongoing conflict.
