PAPUA PORTAL – The President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto received a state visit from the President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Monday, June 15 2026.
This state visit is an important momentum for the two countries to strengthen bilateral relations in various strategic sectors.
President Steinmeier arrived at the Merdeka Palace with a solemn and lively state welcome. The German President’s vehicle entered the Merdeka Palace grounds with an escort of 120 horsemen consisting of 80 troops in front of the vehicle and 40 troops behind the German President’s vehicle.

A total of 17 motorized troops accompanied the group to the Merdeka Palace. Upon arrival at the Palace grounds, President Steinmeier was greeted directly by President Prabowo.
The welcoming atmosphere became even more lively with cheers from school children calling out greetings and performances of typical Indonesian cultural dances.
The welcoming ceremony continued with the playing of the national anthem Indonesia Raya and the German national anthem. After that, President Prabowo and President Steinmeier walked hand in hand to inspect the honor guard as part of a series of state processions.
The two then greeted the delegations from each country. The Indonesian delegation accompanying President Prabowo included Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM Rosan Roeslani, Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Minister of Protection for Indonesian Migrant Workers Mukhtarudin, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
The delegation of the Federal Republic of Germany accompanying the German President included Mr. Florian Hahn, Minister of State; Ralf Beste, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Indonesia; and Amb. Wolfgang Silbermann, Head of the Presidential Foreign Policy Department.
After the welcoming ceremony, President Prabowo and President Steinmeier held a one-on-one meeting (tête-à-tête) to discuss various strategic issues of mutual interest to the two countries. Furthermore, the Indonesian and German delegations met to emphasize and strengthen bilateral relations which have been closely intertwined so far.
The cooperation discussed covers various strategic sectors, ranging from economy, trade, investment, clean energy, to the development of future sectors that can provide benefits for both countries.
The visit of the President of the Federal Republic of Germany to Indonesia is also a symbol of confirmation of the importance of relations between the two countries which have a strategic position in encouraging inclusive and sustainable global cooperation. Through this visit, it is hoped that Indonesia and Germany can further strengthen their mutually beneficial partnership and contribute to mutual stability and progress.***
