PEKALONGAN PORTAL – Diplomatic relations between Iran and the United States (US) are again at their lowest point.

Iran has openly warned of the possibility of a new armed conflict after the peace negotiation process reportedly reached a dead end.

Deputy Inspector of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, Mohammad Jafar Asadi, stated that evidence on the ground shows the US has no commitment to any agreement.

“A new conflict between Iran and the United States is likely to occur. Evidence shows that the United States is not committed to any promises or agreements,” stressed Asadi as quoted by the Fars news agency, Saturday (2/5/2026).

Donald Trump Criticizes Iran Peace Proposal

The latest trigger for tensions is US President Donald Trump’s dissatisfaction with the peace proposal put forward by Tehran.

Trump said the proposal did not meet the standards Washington wanted to end the two countries’ long dispute.

In his statement, Trump outlined two extreme options currently being considered by the United States:

Military Option

Carrying out a massive attack to permanently destroy Iran’s power.

Negotiation Options

Continue to pursue diplomatic channels to reach a new, more binding agreement.

“Do we want to immediately completely bombard them and destroy them forever? Or do we want to try to reach an agreement? That’s the choice,” said Trump as quoted by CNN International.

Despite making strong threats, Trump admitted that he was still more inclined to choose the humanitarian route through renegotiation rather than the military option.

“Humanely, I would prefer not to carry out (a military strike),” he added.

However, the US attitude which Iran considers inconsistent has sparked pessimism from the IRGC.

Tehran feels the latest proposal they sent should be a good starting point for restarting negotiations that had stalled.

Until now, the international community continues to monitor movements in the Middle East region.

It is feared that the deadlock in communication lines between Washington and Tehran could trigger a wider escalation if a common ground is not immediately found at the negotiating table.***
