Hi Bandung – Uganda’s Ministry of Health issued an advisory prohibiting handshaking and other forms of physical greeting that have the potential to transmit disease, following the confirmation of two Ebola cases in the country.

This policy was taken as a preventive measure to reduce the risk of spreading the virus.

Based on the Nile Post report, the Ugandan Ministry of Health continues to monitor developments in the health situation in its region and is ready to take further steps if necessary to prevent the spread of Ebola transmission.

Currently, two cases of Ebola have been detected in Uganda, with one of them reported dead.
The two patients are known to be citizens of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), which was previously affected by a similar outbreak.

WHO Declares Global Emergency Status

On Sunday (17/5), the World Health Organization (WHO) designated the Ebola outbreak that occurred in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC).

This status shows the level of international alertness regarding the spread of the disease.

Based on the latest data from the DRC health authorities, 131 cases of death due to Ebola were recorded in the country.

Meanwhile, the previous outbreak in the DRC was reported to have ended in October 2025, before the emergence of new cases which have now become a global concern.***
