KEPRI POST – Tensions between the United States and Iran have increased again amid uncertainty about the continuation of peace negotiations between the two countries.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, stated that his party currently has no plans to continue the second round of negotiations with the United States.
In a press conference, Baghaei assessed that Washington was not showing seriousness in the diplomatic process.
“We have faced broken promises and pressure from the United States since the ceasefire took effect on April 8,” he said.

Iran criticizes US stance
Iran also highlighted the US attitude regarding the ceasefire in Lebanon which was considered inconsistent. Apart from that, military actions in the Strait of Hormuz are said to have further complicated the situation.
According to Baghaei, what was called a “naval blockade” by the US was one of the main factors in the deterioration of relations between the two countries.
On the other hand, reports say US Vice President JD Vance and the American delegation are heading to Islamabad, Pakistan to continue talks with Iran.

US President Donald Trump stated that the chances of extending a ceasefire with Iran were slim if a deal was not reached soon.
“It’s highly unlikely that I’m going to extend it if there’s no deal,” Trump said.

Trump also emphasized that the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz would remain in place until a peace agreement was reached.
“They want me to open it, but I won’t do it until the deal is signed,” he said.
The policy had a direct impact on global markets, with oil prices reportedly soaring due to tensions and distribution disruptions in the strategic region.
In another development, Trump revealed that US troops had intercepted an Iranian-flagged cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman.
The ship named TOUSKA is said to have tried to break through the naval blockade, but was stopped by a US destroyer.
According to Trump, the ship was finally secured by US Marines after previously being given a warning to stop.
Until now, the situation between the US and Iran is still very dynamic, with high uncertainty regarding the continuation of peace negotiations.
Delayed diplomatic steps and military escalation in the Gulf region have the potential to prolong geopolitical tensions and have a broad impact on global stability. ***
