West Java has once again reinforced its status as Indonesia’s leading producer of Muaythai athletes. At the 2026 Muaythai World Championship in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the province contributed the largest number of athletes to the Indonesian national team and returned home with several medals.
The Chairman of the West Java Provincial Board of the Indonesian Muaythai Association, Rahyang Mandalajati Evi Silviadi SB, said the achievement reflects the success of the province’s long-term athlete development program.
“Up to this point, our sports performance development has continued to run well. Of course, we also recognize that support from the regional government as the policymaker is extremely important,” Evi told Pikiran Rakyat on Friday, July 3, 2026.
Competing in the championship, which featured participants from 100 countries, several West Java athletes secured medals for Indonesia.
Kalya Mega Maulida and Gina Octavia Puspitasari won silver medals in the Mai Muay U24 Female category, while Zahra Permatasari claimed a bronze medal in the Waikru Female U24 category, and Dzakiah Apypah Ghanie earned a bronze medal in the Waikru Female Senior division.
Evi revealed that during the championship, held from June 13 to 26, West Java contributed the highest number of athletes to Indonesia’s national team, with 13 representatives.
“At the recent World Championship, West Java had the largest representation on Indonesia’s national team, with 13 athletes, and four of them won medals in their respective events,” she said.
In addition, promising young athlete Niskala Riksa Sunda Siviadi, better known as Nay Sunda, also delivered an impressive performance. Despite moving up from the U-14 category to U-16, she remained competitive at the world level.
“She moved up to the U-16 category and still finished among the world’s top five. She even defeated several Asian champions,” Evi explained.
According to her, the achievement demonstrates that West Java’s Muaythai development system has successfully produced athletes capable of competing internationally, despite the provincial association’s ongoing financial challenges.
Beyond consistently supplying athletes to the national team, West Java has also been one of Indonesia’s major contributors at the SEA Games, Asian Games, and World Championships.
At the 2021 National Sports Week (PON) in Papua, West Java finished third overall, winning two gold and three silver medals. At the 2024 Aceh–North Sumatra PON, the team, led by Redho and his teammates, finished second overall with five gold, one silver, and six bronze medals.
Meanwhile, at the 9th National Muaythai Championship and the 12th National Muaythai League (Liganas) held in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, in 2021, the West Java team emerged as the overall champion, collecting 11 gold, seven silver, and two bronze medals.
Evi expressed hope that the province’s successful athlete development program would continue, allowing West Java to remain the driving force behind Indonesia’s Muaythai achievements in international competitions.***
