2026 Indonesian Month Event Shows Archipelago Culture Flourishing in Hamburg

DIRECTIONS – Indonesia’s month of success in 2025, featuring various arts and culture of the archipelago will be held again.

It was initiated by a number of figures who are members of IKAT Agentur and Deutsch Indonesische Gesellschaft (DIG) Hamburg or the Indonesian German Friendship Association.

Located at Matahari Hairstyling which is located in the Sankt Georg area, the heart of the city of Hamburg that never sleeps.

Indonesian Month will be held for one month, from 8 May to 8 June 2026 with a mix of activities ranging from introductions to various unique characteristics of the archipelago to other informative meetings.

In the first 2 days the opening event was divided into 2 days.

On the first day, thanks to the support of the Indonesian Consulate General in Hamburg, Bulan Indonesia received a “Distant Guest” from Tidore with a weaving arts program which was revived under the name Puta Dino Kayangan as a team led by Anita Gathmir from the Sultanate of Tidore.

Apart from the presentation, a mini workshop was also held, making düngen weaving using very simple tools.

Dyah Narang-Huth, CEO of IKAT Agentur who is also President of DIG Hamburg, underlined the story of the birth of “Tidore Weaving” as an effort to revive an old heritage which was carried out tenaciously, by searching for data and facts collected.

The event on the first day was also attended by Mrs. Renata Siagian, Indonesian Consul General in Hamburg.

Likewise with other activities, on the second day, Indonesian Month raised the theme “Indonesian Makeup and Buns” as one of the identities of Indonesian women.

Ernina Schahinger, Diaspora owner of Matahari Hairstyling, expressed her joy, because the theme was truly suitable to celebrate the salon, which this May celebrates 20 years of its founding.

The make-up and bun presentation was carried out by Tika Theimert featuring the theme of Indonesian Natural Harmony showing make-up.

The second performance was carried out by Sekar Palupi Benhardt with the theme Traces of the Indonesian Sanggul Tradition.

The third presentation had the theme Harmony of the Indonesian Face and Bun by Inchie Kühl.

Two days full of activity which were also filled with the presence of the Indonesian diaspora and the community around the event location.

At the same time the Port of Hamburg is celebrating its 837th birthday with various activities in Germany’s second largest city.
