THE MIND OF THE PEOPLE – United States authorities identified Cole Tomas Allen as a suspect in a shooting incident at an annual dinner White House Correspondents’ Association which was held in Washington Hilton on Saturday evening, April 25, 2026.

Reporting from Reuters, Allen is around 31 years old and comes from Torrance, Californiaa coastal region bordering Santa Monica Bay south of Los Angeles.

Background and Education

According to a LinkedIn profile in his name, Allen describes himself as “a mechanical engineer and computer scientist by title, an independent game developer by experience, and a teacher by calling.”

He is known to have earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from California Institute of Technology in 2017, which was confirmed through an official campus statement to Reuters. Allen then continued his studies and obtained a master’s degree in computer science from California State University, Dominguez Hills in 2025.

Employment history

In the profile, Allen is listed as working as a part-time teacher at C2 Educationa tutoring agency that focuses on college entrance preparation. He is also said to have received the “Teacher of the Month” award in December 2024 from the C2 Education branch in Torrance.

In addition to teaching, Allen works as an independent game developer. He also had a career as a mechanical engineer at IJK Controls in South Pasadena, and was a teaching assistant at Caltech. In his profile, he also includes involvement in a robotics competition which his team won in 2016.

Chronology and Investigation

The Washington DC Metropolitan Police said investigators believe Allen was a guest staying at the Washington Hilton when the incident occurred. Acting US Attorney General, Todd Blancherevealed that Allen took a road trip by train from Los Angeles to Chicago, then continued on to Washington DC before checking into a hotel.

Blanche also said that investigators were investigating reports that the suspect was assembling weapons inside the hotel.
