ABOUT CIBUBUR-United States President Donald Trump issued a strong threat to Oman regarding the polemic over controlling the Strait of Hormuz, an important world sea route for oil distribution and international trade.

Trump said the United States would not allow any party to control the Strait of Hormuz.

He even said that Oman could be “blown up” if it supported Iran’s plan to control the route.

“This strait will be open to everyone. No one will control it,” said Trump, quoted by The Guardian.

Trump’s statement came after reports of talks between Iran and Oman regarding the proposed management of tariffs on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran is said to want to invite Oman to support a levy mechanism for ships passing through this strategic route.

The Strait of Hormuz has long been one of the world’s most important shipping routes because it passes through oil shipments from the Middle East to various countries.

US-Iran Conflict Heats Up

Tensions rose after the war between the US, Israel and Iran triggered shipping disruptions in the region.

Trump emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz is part of international waters and should not be controlled by any particular country.

“Oman will behave like other countries. Otherwise, we will have to destroy them,” Trump said.

In recent weeks, Trump has been known to try to push for a peace deal with Iran. However, until now the discussions have not resulted in a common ground.

Trump also accused Iran of deliberately delaying the negotiation process until it was approaching the mid-term elections in the United States in November.

On the other hand, a number of Republican Party politicians have criticized the discourse on a ceasefire with Iran.

Chairman of the US Senate Armed Services Committee, Roger Wicker, assessed that the ceasefire plan would be a “disaster” and make US military operations futile.***
