PAPUA PORTAL – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto invited Germany to expand investment in a number of strategic sectors in Indonesia, from the energy transition to electric vehicles, in Jakarta, 15 June 2026.
The invitation is in line with Indonesia’s efforts to accelerate industrialization and strengthen cooperation between the two countries that has existed for 75 years.
“Indonesia also invited Germany to expand investment in important sectors in Indonesia,” said Prabowo, Monday (15/6).
He then gave examples of a number of strategic sectors that have the potential to attract interest from German investors, such as new and renewable energy (EBT), downstream industry, semiconductors and the electric vehicle industry, in line with Indonesia’s efforts to expand the use of electric vehicles.

Apart from that, Prabowo also invited Germany to be involved in developing the supply chain for critical minerals and rare earth elements to support domestic industrial development.
According to him, Indonesia needs to establish a close partnership with Germany because this country has a very strong economic role in Europe.
“We need a good partnership with Germany and with Europe. The visit of the German President this time is a sign that this relationship is very important,” he added.
On the same occasion, Steinmeier revealed that Germany has always viewed Indonesia as not only having large market potential, but also strong investment attractiveness. This is proven by the presence of a number of German companies that remain loyal to operating in Indonesia, such as Siemens and Daimler.

He continued, to strengthen German investment in Indonesia, Germany will continue to support the ratification process of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between Indonesia and the European Union (IEU-CEPA).
The reason is, this agreement will open up new investment opportunities from Germany to Indonesia, as well as encourage more small and medium companies from that country to invest in Indonesia.
“This collaboration can encourage economic growth and closer cooperation between German and Indonesian companies in the field of innovation. Your Excellency Mr President, I think it is beneficial for both parties, for both countries,” he explained. ***
