Cianjurpedia.com – Myanmar’s pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi has been moved from prison to “detention at a location designated by the government,” the country’s national broadcaster reported Thursday, following indications that her sentence was again reduced to around 17 years.
Suu Kyi, 80, was ousted in a military coup in 2021 and jailed on charges, including corruption, that her supporters and many international observers say were politically motivated against the elected civilian leader.
The military-led government on Thursday announced granting clemency to prisoners in one of the countries in Southeast Asia.
The new government led by former military chief Min Aung Hlaing previously announced large-scale pardons on April 17.

With the government formed this month saying it had reduced the terms of all prisoners by one-sixth, Suu Kyi’s term is expected to be cut to around 17 years, according to legal experts.

The Nobel Peace Prize winner was previously sentenced to 33 years in prison until the end of 2022, but his term has been reduced several times.
In granting clemency on April 17, his sentence was estimated to have been reduced to around 20 years.

The military government also stated that it would release a total of 1,519 prisoners, consisting of 1,508 Myanmar citizens and 11 foreign nationals.***
