THE THOUGHTS OF THE PEOPLE OF SULTENG – A new round of geopolitical tensions between the United States and Iran has reached a boiling point again amidst intensive negotiations within a 60-day deadline. Both parties released contradictory statements regarding nuclear surveillance and global strategic maritime routes. Washington’s unilateral claim was immediately met with a strong rebuttal from the highest authorities in Tehran, signaling a steep road to a permanent peace deal.
This disagreement has sparked new concerns about the potential for escalation of conflict in the increasingly uncertain Middle East region.
Mutual claims to nuclear monitoring and rights to the Strait of Hormuz
Tensions flared after US President Donald Trump stated that Tehran had agreed to the “highest level” of nuclear monitoring and inspections in his country. However, this one-sided claim was immediately officially countered by Iran, which flatly rejected accusations that it would allow a team of nuclear inspectors back into its territory.

Not only nuclear matters, the lifeblood of world oil trade in the Strait of Hormuz has also become a subject of heated debate. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has firmly stated that Iran will no longer have the right to collect tolls in the Strait of Hormuz once the final draft agreement is officially signed.
On the other hand, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian took a strong defensive position by emphasizing that his country’s ballistic missile program was non-negotiable and remained outside the discussion agenda with the US.

A new round of messy Israeli-Lebanese negotiations
In another corner of the Middle East, the diplomatic situation is no less complicated when Israel and Lebanon begin the fifth round of negotiations mediated by the United States. Instead of finding clarity, the official Israeli envoy bluntly described the course of the round table discussion as a “train wreck” (train-wreck) aka a complete mess. The reality at the negotiating table shows how fragile regional security stability is due to political egos that are difficult to reconcile. ***
