BUTOLPOST.COM – Tensions between Iran and the United States have entered a new phase. Washington finally responded to the 14-point peace proposal submitted by Tehran, but the final decision is now in Iran’s hands.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Ismail Baghaei, revealed that the response from the United States had been conveyed through Pakistan, which was acting as a mediator.

“The US has provided a response to Pakistan on Iran’s 14-point proposal, and Iranian authorities are currently reviewing it,” Baghaei said, quoted in Iranian media reports.

Even though negotiations are ongoing, Iran insists that the issue of its nuclear program is not at all under discussion. The main focus of the negotiations is said to be only one crucial thing: ending the military conflict that continues to escalate between the two countries.

Previously, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Kazem Gharibabadi, said that the peace proposal had been submitted to Pakistan on Saturday (2/5). The document is said to contain 14 strategic points which include demands for compensation for Iran and the establishment of a new mechanism to regulate shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz – a vital route for world oil trade.

This step is seen as a serious effort by Tehran to reduce a conflict that has the potential to spread. However, there is no certainty whether Washington’s response will pave the way to peace or actually worsen the situation.

In the midst of global pressure and threats of military escalation, the world is now waiting for Iran’s decision: to accept, reject or propose new conditions that could determine the direction of the conflict in the future. ***
