Hi Bandung – The Indonesian government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes the two-week ceasefire agreement between the United States (US) and Iran.
Indonesia also appreciates the restoration of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz which has been reopened, so it is hoped that it can maintain the stability of energy routes.
Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang said this step reflected the openness of the conflicting parties to pursue diplomacy.
“Indonesia sees this momentum as a positive start, and encourages this opportunity to be utilized optimally to advance a sustainable peace settlement,” said Yvonne in Jakarta, Wednesday (8/4).
He emphasized that dialogue and diplomacy are the only ways to resolve the conflict.
Therefore, Indonesia’s contribution to reducing tensions in the Gulf region will be based on this approach.
Indonesia will also continue to support constructive diplomatic efforts to achieve a more permanent conflict resolution.
These efforts, said Yvonne, must prioritize the interests of civil society.
