MediaPemalang.com – Air raid sirens wailed in the capital of Bahrain, Manama, in the early hours of Saturday (6/6/2026). A loud explosion broke the silence of the night. Residents ran for shelter. Iran just fired seven ballistic missiles at two Gulf countries at once.
The attack did not come without reason. The day before, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) shot down four Iranian one-way attack drones that were launched towards the Strait of Hormuz. The US then retaliated by attacking Iran’s coastal surveillance radar sites in the city of Goruk and Qeshm Island.

This conflict began with Iran’s threat to completely close the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic shipping lane through which around 20 percent of the world’s oil passes. This threat triggered a military response from the US which immediately strengthened its naval presence in the region.
Iran Claims Attack on US Military Base
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) immediately responded to the US attack. They claimed the ballistic missile attacks targeted “enemy bases” in Kuwait and Bahrain. The IRGC Air Force said it targeted the Ali al-Salem air base in Kuwait and the main facility of the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet in Bahrain.
Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior immediately issued an air raid warning and appealed to residents to take shelter in safe places. Sirens sounded throughout the capital. Several explosions were also heard near Kuwait International Airport. Kuwait’s military announced it was responding to missile and drone attacks from “enemies”.
However, CENTCOM immediately denied Iran’s claim. In a statement on X, CENTCOM confirmed it had successfully intercepted six of the seven missiles launched by Iran. The seventh missile is said to have not reached its intended target.
“There are currently no reports of injuries to US personnel, and Iran’s claims of destruction of the US 5th Fleet base in Bahrain are false,” CENTCOM said in a statement.
US Counterattack on Iranian Radar Site
Before Iran fired its missiles, the US had already attacked. CENTCOM admitted its forces shot down four Iranian one-way attack drones launched towards the Strait of Hormuz. The drones are considered to pose a direct threat to regional maritime traffic.
The US then attacked Iran’s coastal surveillance radar sites in the city of Goruk and on Qeshm Island. The attack was aimed at preventing further attacks from Iran. Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB reported several explosions heard in Sirik, southern Iran, at around 02.30 in the morning.
Impact for Indonesia
There have been no reported civilian casualties. However, tensions in the Gulf region are increasingly heating up. The conflict that began with the threat of closing the Strait of Hormuz has now developed into a direct exchange of attacks between Iran and the Western coalition.
For Indonesia, this escalation needs to be looked at seriously. Indonesia’s dependence on oil imports from the Gulf region means that any disturbance in the Strait of Hormuz has the potential to increase fuel prices and exacerbate pressure on the rupiah which has already reached IDR 18,000 per US dollar. World crude oil prices have jumped seven percent since this conflict escalated.
Pemalang residents who depend on the transportation and logistics sector for their living need to be prepared to face the possibility of an increase in fuel prices in the next few weeks.***
