MEDAN PR– Rhetorical tensions between world leaders are heating up again. This time, the spotlight is on the Iranian President’s harsh response to the former United States President’s controversial statement.
The President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, has publicly condemned Donald Trump’s comments which he considered insulting the supreme leader of the Catholic Church, Pope Leo XIV.
The condemnation was conveyed via the X platform on Monday 13 April 2026, in a firm tone and full of moral messages.

Pezeshkian believes that insulting religious symbols, especially those related to the teachings of peace, is an act that cannot be justified.
He even mentioned the figure of Jesus as a “prophet of peace and brotherhood” who should be respected by all parties.
A similar tone also came from the Iranian Foreign Ministry. Through its spokesman, Esmail Baghaei, Iran delivered sharp criticism of Trump’s remarks.
In his statement, Baghaei emphasized that in a world filled with conflict and tension, the Pope’s message of peace is actually an important moral voice.

He cited Biblical values that call for peace, while saying that verbal attacks on the Pope were a form of rejection of humanitarian efforts and global justice.
This controversy began with Trump’s statement labeling Pope Leo XIV as “weak in the face of evil” and “failing in foreign policy”. He also accused the Pope’s attitude on international issues, including the conflict involving Iran, of being full of political interests.
However, this criticism did not make Pope Leo XIV resign. In his response, he emphasized that he was not afraid of political pressure, including from the Trump administration. For him, the stance taken is solely rooted in the teachings of the Bible, not the agenda of power.
Interestingly, the Pope chose not to engage in direct polemic. He remains consistent in advocating peace, especially amidst the escalating conflict involving the United States and Israel against Iran.
Since his election on May 8 2025, Pope Leo XIV—whose birth name is Robert Francis Prevost—has been known to be vocal on global humanitarian issues. He often criticizes militaristic approaches and “shows of force” which are seen as exacerbating international conflicts.
Born in Chicago, United States, on September 14 1955, Pope Leo XIV became the first Pope from Uncle Sam’s country.
