The attack took place in the midst of military operations launched by the United States and Israel in a number of areas in Iran. In response, Tehran is said to have carried out retaliatory attacks on targets in Israel and several Gulf countries.
Quoting a report from The New York Times, the results of the United States military’s initial investigation stated that the Tomahawk cruise missile was suspected of mistargeting and hitting the school.
Meanwhile, United States President Donald Trump previously stated that Iran might be responsible for the incident, even though Iran is not known to have a Tomahawk missile weapons system.
On the other hand, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in his speech at the UN Human Rights Council called the attack a deliberate act.
He considered that, with the sophisticated military technology that the attackers possessed, it was difficult to believe that the incident occurred due to a technical error alone.
Until now, there has been no further official statement from the United States or Israel regarding the results of the final investigation into the incident. ***
