PONTIANAK NEWS – US President Donald Trump has agreed to a two-week suspension of Iran’s bombing plans, after earlier threatening an attack with the dramatic statement that “the whole civilization will die tonight” if Tehran does not comply with his demands.
On Tuesday evening, hours before the planned attack, Trump announced via the Truth Social platform that his policy direction had changed. He emphasized Pakistan’s role as a mediator in the settlement, but emphasized the main condition: Iran must reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

“Based on conversations with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, they asked me to restrain the destructive force sent tonight into Iran. On the condition that the Islamic Republic of Iran agree to the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, I agreed to suspend bombings and attacks on Iran for two weeks,” Trump wrote on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
Responding to Trump’s statement, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed that a temporary agreement had been reached.
“If attacks on Iran are stopped, our mighty Armed Forces will stop their defensive operations,” Araghchi wrote.
He added that for two weeks, safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz would be possible through coordination with the Iranian military and taking into account technical limitations.
Araghchi also expressed thanks to Pakistan for its efforts to mediate the suspension of bombing operations at the last minute. Iran’s Supreme National Security Council indicated that the ceasefire could be extended beyond two weeks if negotiations proceed positively.
