News Screen – Kuwait temporarily suspended flight operations at Kuwait International Airport after the airport facilities were reportedly the target of a drone attack on Wednesday, June 3 2026. The incident left a number of people injured and caused damage to the terminal building.

Spokesperson for the Kuwait Ministry of Defense, Brigadier General Saud Abdulaziz Al-Atwan, called the attack an act of aggression that resulted in material damage and injuries.

Although he did not specify the number of victims, Al-Atwan confirmed that all the injured victims had received medical treatment.

Kuwait’s official news agency reported that civil aviation authorities immediately stopped air traffic and diverted a number of flights to alternative airports after Terminal 1 was damaged in the attack.

This incident is a new test for the ceasefire that has been in effect since April 8 between Iran and the parties involved in the regional conflict. Although the agreement has remained relatively intact, a number of sporadic military incidents have continued to occur.

On the other hand, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated that the attack was carried out in response to United States military actions which were said to be targeting communications facilities on Qeshm Island, Iran. However, the statement did not directly confirm that Kuwait International Airport was the target of the attack.

According to the Revolutionary Guards, the targets of their counter operations were United States military facilities in the Gulf region, including air bases and the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet.

Meanwhile, the United States Military Central Command (Centcom) claims to have succeeded in thwarting a number of Iranian missile and drone attacks aimed at Kuwait and Bahrain.

In its statement, Centcom said that two missiles fired towards Kuwait failed to reach their targets, while three missiles towards Bahrain were successfully intercepted by the United States and Bahraini air defense systems.

The Bahraini government also confirmed that it had intercepted three missiles and a number of drones launched from Iran.

Kuwait is one of the United States’ main allies in the Gulf region and has been the target of attacks several times since the conflict escalated following the United States and Israel’s military operation against Iran last February.

The Iranian government previously accused a number of Gulf countries, including Kuwait, of providing access for United States troops to launch military operations from their territory. This accusation is one of the factors that exacerbates tensions in the region.

Kuwait International Airport itself only returned to full operation on June 1 after previously being affected by the deteriorating regional security situation.***
