Bulukumba News – The skies of Tel Aviv had not yet completely calmed down when the news came—the ceasefire. No sirens wailed that night, no explosions rent the air. Another wave rose instead: political anger.

On cellphone screens, Benjamin Netanyahu’s name appeared again, as the target of criticism. The agreement that stopped the explosion of weapons for two weeks actually opened a new chapter – domestic fighting, which is no less sharp than the conflict on the battlefield.

The ceasefire decision between the United States and Iran for two weeks sparked sharp controversy within Israel. The deal is said to be a last-ditch effort to prevent a major escalation, after President Donald Trump previously threatened total destruction of Iran.

A number of White House officials stated that Israel agreed to the deal and was willing to suspend attacks on Tehran. However, the government under Netanyahu emphasized that the ceasefire does not cover Lebanon, a region where conflict with the Hezbollah group is still ongoing.

However, this decision did not calm criticism within the country. Instead, opposition leaders launched open political attacks.

Cracks in the country

The main opposition leader, Yair Lapid, delivered strong criticism via social media X. He called this situation a major failure in his country’s political history.

“There has never been a political disaster like this in our history. Israel was not even involved in decision-making regarding the core of our national security,” he said.

Lapid assessed that the military had carried out its duties, but the political leadership had failed to capitalize on this momentum.

“The military has done everything that was asked of them… but Netanyahu has failed politically, failed strategically, and achieved none of the goals he has set for himself,” he added.

The statement illustrates the widening gap between the government and the opposition, especially regarding the direction and outcome of the conflict with Iran.
