Manchester United Officially Sign Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa

Manchester United have officially signed midfielder Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa during this summer’s transfer window. The Belgian international has signed a five-year contract and will wear the No. 18 shirt.

Tielemans said he was extremely proud to join the Red Devils, describing Manchester United as the club he had admired since he first fell in love with football. He also brings extensive Premier League experience after previous spells with Leicester City and Aston Villa.

“I have been fortunate enough to experience success in this sport, and that has only strengthened my determination to achieve even more,” said Tielemans. “The ambition throughout this club is crystal clear. We are all determined to compete for the biggest trophies in the years ahead,” he added.

Meanwhile, Manchester United sporting director Jason Wilcox believes Tielemans will be a valuable addition to Michael Carrick’s squad. According to Wilcox, the 29-year-old is one of the Premier League’s outstanding midfielders and possesses the quality, ambition, and mentality that align perfectly with Manchester United’s standards.

“Youri’s consistency has been outstanding, and he will bring composure, creativity, and additional leadership to our squad,” Wilcox said.

Earlier in the transfer window, the Red Devils also completed the signing of veteran goalkeeper Karl Darlow following his departure from Leeds United. The Welsh goalkeeper described joining Manchester United as an incredibly special and exciting opportunity.

Meanwhile, Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso explained why he chose to take charge of the West London club instead of returning to his former club, Liverpool. He said the decision ultimately came down to timing, as Chelsea made their approach first.

“It’s all about timing,” Alonso said during his first day at Stamford Bridge.

The Spanish coach was appointed Chelsea’s new manager in May and led his first training session with the squad last week. Alonso’s appointment attracted widespread attention after Liverpool dismissed head coach Arne Slot just two weeks after Alonso arrived at Stamford Bridge.

Before moving to London, Alonso had been strongly linked with the Liverpool managerial position in 2024 following Jürgen Klopp’s departure, and his name resurfaced again this year as calls for Slot’s dismissal intensified. However, Alonso ultimately accepted Chelsea’s offer.***
