Belgium national team head coach Rudi Garcia has officially decided not to renew his contract after his agreement with the Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA) expires on July 31, 2026.
The decision was reached jointly by the RBFA and Garcia following Belgium’s elimination in the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The RBFA expressed its appreciation for the French coach’s contributions during his 18-month tenure in charge of The Red Devils.
Quoted from the official FIFA website on Tuesday, the RBFA said Garcia helped Belgium navigate a challenging period by securing the team’s place in UEFA Nations League A and guiding them to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“We extend our sincere thanks to Rudi Garcia and his staff for their dedication, professionalism, and commitment over the past 18 months, and we wish them every success in the future,” the RBFA said in its official statement.
Garcia later shared a farewell message through his personal Instagram account.
He said the decision to end the partnership was made following discussions between both parties.
“I would like to thank the outstanding players, sporting director Vincent Mannaert, and the fans who supported us throughout the World Cup. I wish Belgium all the best as they continue the generational transition that I have begun,” Garcia wrote.
Garcia was appointed as Belgium’s head coach on January 24, 2025, replacing Domenico Tedesco.
During his tenure, he led Belgium in 12 matches across various competitions.
Of those 12 matches, Belgium recorded seven wins, four draws, and suffered just one defeat.
Garcia subsequently guided Belgium to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where their campaign came to an end in the quarter-finals.***
