KLATEN FLASHBACK – Saudi Arabia continues to present new innovations to increase the comfort and safety of Hajj pilgrims.
One of them is by installing a smart lighting system on the paths to holy places.
This technology is not just aesthetic, but is specifically designed to help drivers stay focused during long journeys.
Especially during the Hajj season, traffic can be very busy and tiring. Here are 5 important facts:

1. Use Advanced Lighting System “Darbak Noor”
The Saudi Arabian Highway Authority launched a lighting system called “darbak noor”.
This system is designed to improve road safety during the Hajj season.
This technology provides a new visual dimension to the driving experience.
Not only does it illuminate the road, but it also helps with driver orientation.
This initiative is part of improving Hajj infrastructure. At the same time supporting the big target of Saudi Vision 2030.
2. Equipped with 16 lasers and 1,110 solar lights
This program uses 16 laser devices that project colorful light.
The range can even reach up to 2 kilometers along the road.
In addition, there are 1,110 solar-powered road markers.
This combination means road visibility increases significantly.
This technology also remains efficient because it uses renewable energy. As a result, the road remains bright without wasting energy.
3. Help Reduce Driver Drowsiness and Fatigue
These smart lights are designed to increase driver alertness.
Dynamic light helps reduce visual fatigue during long drives.
Apart from that, the risk of drowsiness while driving can also be reduced.
Disturbances in concentration that often occur on long journeys are also minimized.
This is important because the pilgrimage route often takes a long time. That way, the potential for accidents can be reduced.
4. Focused on the busy Makkah–Madinah route
Initial implementation focused on the Hijrah Road which connects Makkah and Medina.
This route is known to be very busy during the Hajj season.
Site selection was carried out using strict technical criteria.
The goal is to ensure that the resulting impact is truly maximized.
By focusing on the main route, many drivers can immediately feel the benefits.

This is also a priority because of the high mobility of the congregation.
5. Still in the testing phase, ready to be expanded
Currently, the smart lighting system is still in the testing phase.
The Saudi government will evaluate the results before expanding it to other regions.
If proven effective, this technology could be applied more widely.
The hope is that road safety standards will improve across the board.
Apart from that, this project also beautifies the landscape of the city of Makkah.
This initiative is even referred to as a model for future engineering solutions.***
