Cianjurpedia.com – Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) navy on Monday, May 4, 2026, fired two missiles at a US Navy frigate attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz, the semi-official Fars news agency reported.

The US frigate, which was sailing near the southern Iranian port city of Jask to cross the Strait of Hormuz and “violate traffic and shipping security,” was hit by a missile after ignoring Iranian navy warnings, Fars reported citing local sources.

The report added that after being hit by a missile, the frigate was forced to retreat and leave the area.

However, according to a subsequent report from Axios, a senior US official denied that a US ship was hit by an Iranian missile.

Iran has repeatedly announced that no movement can pass through the Strait of Hormuz without official permission from its side, and ignoring these warnings will be met with a firm response by the Iranian military, Fars said.

US President Donald Trump said on Sunday (3/5) that the US would guide ships stuck in the Strait of Hormuz to safely exit the restricted waterway on Monday.

Responding to Trump’s claims, Iran’s top military command, the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, warned Monday that “any foreign armed forces, especially the aggressive US military, will be attacked if they intend to approach and enter the Strait of Hormuz,” Iran’s official IRNA news agency reported.

Iran tightened its control over the Strait of Hormuz starting February 28, when it blocked safe passage for ships owned or affiliated with Israel and the US following joint US-Israel attacks on Iranian territory.

The US imposed an anti-Iran blockade on the Strait of Hormuz after post-ceasefire negotiations with Tehran in Islamabad, the Pakistani capital, on April 11 and 12 failed to reach an agreement.***
