Thailand Mourns Thailand's Crown Princess Dies After 3.5 Years in Coma, Kingdom Prepares Highest Tribute

BUTOLPOST – Sad news covers the Kingdom of Thailand. Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati, the eldest daughter of King of Thailand Maha Vajiralongkorn (Rama X), died at the age of 47 after undergoing intensive treatment and being in a coma for more than three years.

In an official statement delivered by the Royal Thai Household Bureau, Friday (12/6), Princess Bajrakitiyabha breathed her last at Chulalongkorn Hospital, Bangkok, on Thursday (11/6) at 19.48 local time.

Princess Bajrakitiyabha is known to have experienced serious health problems since December 15, 2022 after losing consciousness due to complications related to her heart condition. Since then, he has undergone intensive medical treatment under the supervision of a team of royal doctors.

His condition was reported to have worsened since May 21, 2026 after experiencing a stomach infection due to colitis. These complications trigger low blood pressure, heart rhythm disturbances (arrhythmias), and blood clots which worsen their health condition.

Even though various medical efforts had been made, the princess’s condition did not show significant improvement until she was finally declared dead.

Upon the death of Princess Bajrakitiyabha, King Maha Vajiralongkorn ordered a funeral ceremony to be held with the highest royal honors, a form of respect given to members of the royal family who have contributed to the country.

Princess Bajrakitiyabha’s body will lie in state in the Phiman Rattaya Throne Hall within the Royal Palace Complex in Bangkok.

The Royal Household Bureau has also announced the official schedule for people wishing to pay their last respects.

On Saturday (13/6), the general public was invited to take part in a symbolic bathing ceremony in front of the princess’s photo which was held at the Sahathai Samakom Pavilion, Bangkok’s King’s Palace Complex, from 08.30 to midnight local time.

Furthermore, starting Sunday (14/6), the public can pay their respects and sign the condolence book provided at the same location every day from 08.30 to 16.00 local time.

After the 15-day series of royal rituals ends, the general public will also be given the opportunity to pay their respects directly before the body of Princess Bajrakitiyabha at the Phiman Rattaya Throne Hall starting June 27. This location will be open every day from 09.00 to 21.00 local time.

The passing of Princess Bajrakitiyabha is a great loss for the royal family and the Thai people. During his lifetime, he was known to be active in various social, legal and international diplomatic activities which brought Thailand’s name to the world stage.***
