News Screen – The United States and Iran are reportedly getting closer to reaching an agreement to end the conflict in the Middle East after intensive negotiations mediated by a number of countries took place in recent weeks.

United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, said the opportunity to reach a peace agreement was open in the near future. This statement was made during his visit to India, Sunday, May 24 2026.

“I think there’s a chance the world will get some good news in the next few hours,” Rubio told reporters.

Previously, US President Donald Trump also said that the negotiation process between Washington and Tehran was almost complete.

Through posts on social media, Trump said that most of the contents of the agreement had been agreed upon and were just waiting for the finalization stage with Iran and a number of countries involved in mediation.

The agreement is said to be the first step towards regional stability as well as alleviating international concerns regarding Iran’s nuclear program.

Rubio said the main goal of the negotiations was to create a situation where the world no longer feels threatened by Iran’s potential nuclear weapons.

On the other hand, Iranian officials confirmed the existence of a draft agreement, but emphasized that discussions regarding Iran’s nuclear program would be postponed for 60 days after the deal takes effect.

Iranian media, Fars News Agency, reported that in the draft agreement the United States would disburse some of Iran’s funds which had been frozen due to international sanctions.

Apart from that, Washington is also rumored to be ending its blockade of Iranian ports and temporarily lifting a number of sanctions in the oil, gas and petrochemical sectors.

As part of the agreement, Iran is said to be reopening shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz which during the conflict experienced strict restrictions.

The reopening of this strategic route is considered important for the stability of the global energy market because the Strait of Hormuz is the main route for world oil shipments.

This peace effort also involves a number of regional countries, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain, Turkey and Pakistan. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said his country was ready to host the next round of talks between the United States and Iran.

Even though negotiations continue, tensions in the region have not completely subsided. Iran’s chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, warned that Tehran was ready to provide a greater response if conflict broke out again.

Meanwhile, the situation in southern Lebanon is also still heating up. Lebanese state media reported that Israeli attacks had occurred again in the area even though a ceasefire had been implemented in April.

The Lebanese military said the attack hit a military facility and left one soldier injured. At the same time, the Lebanese civil defense agency reported that one of its regional facilities in the city of Nabatieh suffered damage due to the latest attack.***
