News Screen – The United States and Iran have finally agreed to a temporary ceasefire for two weeks, after the armed conflict that has been going on since the end of February 2026 caused major casualties and rocked the global economy.
The deal was announced less than an hour before the deadline set by United States President Donald Trump. However, both countries both claimed victory over the conflict.
President Trump called the deal a “total victory”, while the Iranians also considered it a success, although they emphasized that the war was not truly over before a formal agreement was reached.

This ceasefire includes the temporary opening of the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic route for world energy trade that Iran previously closed in response to military attacks. This policy immediately had an impact on a sharp decline in global oil prices.
However, a number of crucial issues are still being debated, including uranium enrichment, lifting sanctions, and control of the Strait of Hormuz. Iran insists it will only agree to permanent peace if all its demands are met.
