“That’s a way to keep it safe, while protecting it from many other parties. That’s a beautiful thing,” he explained.
In his social media post on Truth on Tuesday, April 7 2026, Trump explained that the US could reap large amounts of money if they helped handle the buildup of ship traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
“We will load various types of supplies, and stay ‘in the area’ to make sure everything runs smoothly. I feel confident that will happen,” he said.

Then, one day earlier, Trump also proposed to Washington that they levy fees on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. He also stressed that opening up must be part of any deal ending the war with Iran.
“What if we charge fees,” said Donald Trump at a press conference at the White House on Monday, April 6, 2026.
“I would rather do that than let them (Iran) do it,” said Donald Trump.
