News Screen — The ceasefire between the United States and Iran that has only been in place for a few days is showing signs of cracking, as the conflict in the Middle East region escalates, especially in Lebanon.

A ceasefire agreement reached to ease tensions for two weeks is now in danger of collapsing, after a massive Israeli attack on Lebanese territory sparked a strong reaction from the Iran-backed side.

The attack that occurred on Wednesday (8/4/2026) was reported to be one of the heaviest, including hitting densely populated areas in the capital city of Beirut. The Lebanese Ministry of Health recorded at least 182 people killed and hundreds more injured.

Hezbollah Responds to Attacks

The Hezbollah group responded by launching rockets towards Israel and accused the attack of violating the spirit of the ceasefire involving the United States and Iran.

However, Israel emphasized that its military operations in Lebanon were not included in the ceasefire agreement. This statement was also supported by United States officials who said the conflict with Hezbollah was outside the scope of the agreement.

Iran Questions Commitment

On the other hand, Iran is starting to question the continuation of the agreement. The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, stated that a number of actions had damaged the basis of negotiations.

He highlighted several things, including the attack in Lebanon, alleged violations of Iran’s airspace, and differences in views regarding the nuclear program.

This statement reinforces concerns that the ongoing diplomatic process could stall before reaching a long-term agreement.

Regional and Global Impact

This tension also has a broad impact in the region. Since the conflict escalated, more than 1,700 people have been reported killed in Lebanon as a result of airstrikes and ground operations.

Apart from that, the situation in the strategic route of the Strait of Hormuz is also in the spotlight, considering that this route is an important route for global energy distribution. Security uncertainty in this region has the potential to affect world economic stability.

Diplomacy Efforts Continue

A number of countries, including Pakistan, which acts as a mediator, urged all parties to exercise restraint and respect the ceasefire so that diplomatic space remains open.

Further talks between the United States and Iran are scheduled to take place in the near future, although they are still marked by tensions and sharp differences in interests.

In the midst of an uncertain situation, various international parties are calling for a permanent end to the conflict to prevent a wider humanitarian crisis.

With conditions continuing to develop, the future of this ceasefire is still uncertain and really depends on the commitment of all parties to restrain escalation and prioritize diplomacy.***
