BUTOLPOST – Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, emphasized that the United States must take full responsibility for implementing the peace memorandum of understanding agreed with Tehran, including ensuring a complete cessation of Israeli military attacks against Lebanon.

Araghchi made this assertion in separate talks with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty.

During the meeting, Araghchi revealed that the Iranian government had carried out a thorough review of all processes and clauses produced in the round of negotiations in Islamabad, Pakistan.

He also expressed his appreciation to Türkiye, Iraq and Egypt for their support for ceasefire efforts and diplomatic steps aimed at reducing tensions and maintaining stability in the Middle East region.

“All parties emphasize the importance of continuing consultation and coordination regarding regional developments as well as strengthening diplomatic channels to maintain regional security and stability,” said a statement delivered during the discussion.

This peace agreement is a follow-up to the ceasefire which came into effect on April 8. After the ceasefire was reached, Iran and the United States began Pakistan-mediated negotiations to permanently end the conflict.

The text of the memorandum of understanding that has now been agreed upon was prepared based on the 14 points proposed by Tehran at the initial stage of the ceasefire. Over the last 60 days, the document has gone through a series of intensive studies and discussions by the two countries.

Iran emphasized that it would maintain its position despite facing various pressures, ceasefire violations, and changes in attitude from the United States during the negotiation process.

After signing the peace memorandum of understanding, Washington and Tehran are scheduled to continue negotiations in the next 60 days to reach a comprehensive agreement on a number of issues on which there are still differences between the two parties.

These follow-up negotiations are expected to be an important step towards permanent peace and broader stability in the Middle East region.***
