Hi Bandung – The delegation of the United States (US) and Iran is scheduled to hold technical level talks at the luxury mountain resort of Bürgenstock, Switzerland, on June 21 2026 as a follow-up to the previously agreed memorandum of understanding. This meeting was announced by the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs which was also involved as a mediator with Qatar.

The discussion agenda is expected to focus on implementing the agreement, cooperation mechanisms, as well as further steps to maintain dialogue between the two countries. The Bürgenstock location was chosen because it was considered capable of providing a closed and safe atmosphere for sensitive negotiations amidst increasing regional geopolitical dynamics.

“As a follow-up to Islamabad’s signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, technical level talks will be held in Burgenstock, Switzerland, on June 21, 2026,” the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry statement added that representatives from the US and Iran, along with mediators from Pakistan and Qatar, would participate in the discussions.

The US and Iran were previously expected to start negotiations on Friday (19/6), but were postponed due to fighting between Israel and the Lebanese Shiite movement, Hezbollah, in Lebanon.

Preparation of a memorandum of understanding

Previously on June 14 2026, Iran and the US confirmed that the preparation of a memorandum of understanding had been completed.

Then on the night before June 18, 2026, the two countries signed the document remotely guaranteeing the end of the military conflict that began on February 28, 2026.

The memorandum will give the two countries 60 days to negotiate a final agreement on issues surrounding Iran’s nuclear and US-imposed sanctions.

In addition, the memorandum also sets a deadline for the US to lift its naval blockade, and for Iran to restore shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.***
