PRIANGANTIMURNEWS – Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East region have heated up again after Iran announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important oil shipping lanes in the world.

This step was said to be a response to alleged violations of the peace agreement by the United States as well as continuing Israeli attacks on Lebanese territory.

In a statement delivered on Saturday 20 June 2026, the Iranian military assessed that the United States had failed to carry out its commitments in the peace memorandum of understanding (MoU), especially regarding the implementation of a ceasefire in all conflict areas, including Lebanon.

The Khatam Al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said that violations of the agreement, plus the continuation of Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon, were the main reasons for taking firm steps by Iran.

In a statement quoted by Iran’s national television, IRIB, the military stated that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz was officially implemented as a response to the developing situation.

Iran also warned that if attacks on Lebanon continue, it is ready to take additional steps to encourage relevant parties to fulfill commitments in the peace deal that has been agreed.

This development has attracted international attention because the Strait of Hormuz is a strategic route for global energy trade. Any disruption in the region has the potential to affect economic stability and energy supplies in various countries.

The escalation of conflict in the Middle East needs to be responded to carefully by all parties. Dialogue and diplomacy efforts are considered to remain the best way to prevent the spread of conflict which could have an impact on regional security and the global economy.***
