Garut PR- A crisis of confidence is now looming over the inner circle of the United States government. A recent report from The Washington Post revealed serious allegations. US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is said to have not conveyed a complete picture of Iran’s military capabilities to President Donald Trump.
The report, published April 7 2026, quoted a number of internal officials who assessed that there was information distortion at the highest level. The impact is not small, Trump’s public statements are seen to repeatedly contain misleading claims, especially regarding the effectiveness of US military operations in the Middle East.
Over the past few months, Hegseth has appeared confident. He often emphasizes America’s air dominance while underestimating Iran’s missile attack capacity, especially after a joint US and Israeli operation which was claimed to have succeeded in paralyzing Tehran’s launch facilities and weapons arsenal.
Since February 28, Iran has continued to launch continuous attacks on Israeli territory and American targets in the region. This intensity raises a big question: has Washington misread its opponent’s strength?

Questionable Parameters
A US official, in an anonymous interview, called Hegseth’s approach to assessing Iran’s strength “foolish parameters.” He highlighted the tendency to measure threats solely by the number of missile launches—without considering an opponent’s strategy, reserves and tactical adaptations.
Furthermore, other officials revealed discrepancies between public claims and internal government documents. In fact, several intelligence accounts are said to directly contradict Hegseth’s statements, including the claim that Iranian attacks had decreased drastically by the end of March.

The fact? Data suggests sharper declines have occurred before, making the claim inaccurate.
Risk of Miscalculation
Concerns are now shifting from mere communication to potential strategic miscalculations. Hegseth’s assessment of the impact of a US attack on Iran’s military program is considered too optimistic, even though the program is still considered a major threat to the interests of America and its allies.

A number of Western media also began to criticize Hegseth’s communication style. He is considered to have deviated from the tradition of previous Ministers of Defense, with a more ideological approach and a tendency to ignore the ethical principles of war.
Cracks in the Pentagon
In the midst of external pressure, internal friction in the Pentagon is inevitable. Dan Driscoll, the US Secretary of the Army, has publicly stated he will not resign despite his reported clash with Hegseth.
